Alexander Isak has spoken publicly for the first time after suffering an injury setback during Liverpool’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Sweden international, 26, picked up the problem following a challenge involving Spurs defender Micky van de Ven. Isak later underwent surgery on what he described as an ankle injury “that included a fibula fracture,” ruling him out for a period while he begins his recovery.

Isak had only just made a decisive impact on the match, coming off the bench to score, before being forced off moments later. He appeared in clear discomfort as he left the pitch and Liverpool’s medical staff assessed the extent of the injury.

“Gutted to be out for a while”

Taking to Instagram, the forward confirmed he will be sidelined, while thanking supporters for the messages he has received since the incident.

“Gutted to be out for a while. Time to recover and support from the sideline,” Isak wrote.

“I will work hard to be back as soon as I possibly can. Thank you all reds and everyone else for the kind messages, it does not go unnoticed. #YNWA.”

What it means for Liverpool

The setback is a frustrating one for both player and club, especially after Isak’s immediate contribution off the bench. With a spell on the sidelines now expected, Liverpool will be monitoring his rehabilitation closely and managing his return carefully after surgery.

For Isak, the focus is now on recovery — and on returning in the best possible condition after an injury that will require time, patience, and a structured rehab plan.
